In case you are unfamiliar, TBF is a 1985 movie about five very different teens (a juvenile delinquent, a nerd, a jock, a weirdo girl, and a popular 'princess') who must spend a day in detention together. They talk, they fight, they connect.
I am about to rewatch it for the umpteenth time...
(Oh, and being very predictable, I totally adore Bender/Claire. In RL, way unworkable, but in a movie? Hell yeah...)
See, earlier this evening, Best Beloved was making vague dissatisfied noises about wanting to accomplish something tonight. The topic of conversation was dropped while she caught up on some reading and then made us dinner; we ate, our noses buried in books the way we usually do in this household over a meal, and it was a very satisfying half-hour of mutual self-education. Once we had both finished, I put down my book, looked at her, and said, tentatively, "So. Are you still feeling like you need to accomplish something tonight?"
She looked at me and said, "You want me to make you chocolate chip cookie bars, don't you."
Dear reader, I had not mentioned cookie bars once all day. I had not, in fact, mentioned cookie bars -- which I have been craving since last week -- since, well, last week, when I asked her to pick up the ingredients. And yet, without any prompting at all, she had managed to intuit exactly what I was going to ask.
Cammie and JD, eat your heart out. (The cookie bars are in the oven. I love my girlfriend.)
(This is not, however, the absolute best case of our occasional practical telepathy; that was when she was on her way home from work and had stopped at the grocery store, arriving home with a sack full of groceries. She took a bunch of bananas out of the top of the sack, put them down on the counter, and said, "Don't ask me why I bought bananas. I hate bananas. I just saw them in the store and something told me to buy the bananas." And I had to say "....", because I'd just been thinking about how much I wanted a banana split. With us, the Broccoli Test works from about twenty miles away.)
Everyone is aware that it's always defriending amnesty day around here, right? And you don't even have to tell me why...

Just a reminder that the deadline for fic submissions is TODAY. If it's still July 25th somewhere in the world then you're on time. After that... you have until Madelyn or I get near a computer and call time.
Submission details are in the locked post HERE.
I've been updating that post with submissions as I see them and the time I last checked - if you submitted your fic before the last check time and your name isn't there then let me know.

Warnings: No spoilers, but much schmoop, romance and warm happy things. General flouting of DADT. Let's jus say Atlantis has deleted that part of the Uniform Code. Caveat lector.
Author's Notes: Some this stuff actually happens to me. My husband is a sleep talker.
Summary: Rodney sometimes talks semi-nonsense in his sleep. John kinda likes it.
Concrit appreciated
~*~*~*~*~*~
One of the awesome (many awesome) things about sleeping with Rodney was that he half-woke up and said these things; stuff left over from a dream or just random Rodney neurons firing and it all came tumbling out.
It’s like his own personal guerilla theatre, but with nudity. So, John had no problem whatsoever with Rodney talking nonsense in his sleep.
Cell phones--The new cigarettes? There has been a raging debate over whether cell phones--or more specifically electromagnetic radiation that they emit--up a person's cancer risk. The latest chapter: Ronald Herberman, director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, this week warned consumers to limit exposure to cell phone radiation--and alerted parents to beware of possible effects on their kids' developing brains. Although the evidence remains controversial, he is convinced that the radiation poses a risk to human health. As he pointed out, a number of countries, including France, Germany and India, have already issued such warnings to their citizens. Herberman outlined 10 ways to reduce exposure. Among them: reduce cell phone use, use a hands-free earpiece, switch ears while chatting to limit radiation concentration in one spot, and avoid using mobile phones in public places to limit second-hand radiation. In particular, he cautions parents about the possible effects of cell phone radiation on children. He indicates that kids should only be allowed to use these devices in cases of emergency, as their developing brains are more likely to be susceptible to possible side effects. He said recent studies indicate that "living tissue is vulnerable to electromagnetic fields within the frequency bands used by cell phones." Worried? Perhaps you should be. But that doesn't mean you should hang up altogether, Herberman says. As he noted in his memo: "Our society will no longer do without cell phones." But he says there's enough biological data to indicate that consumers should take precautions. Herberman also called on the cell phone industry to improve current technologies to limit radiation risks. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration did not respond to requests for comment, but the agency says on its Web site that no clear link exists between cell phone usage and cancer.

Why this vid kicks ass:
The hardest part of deciding to recommend a vid by Mary Van Deusen is not recommending the rest of them. She's got an amazing eye for detail, visual and musical, and has made a fine art of blending lyrics and images to convey new meaning. So I'll admit it, I picked one of the two she's named as her favorites among the Sherlockian collection. Auld Lang Syne is not only a memorial to Jeremy Brett -- it also brilliantly captures the friendship and love reflected in the performances that he and Edward Hardwicke gave of Holmes and Watson. She's also got it in two versions, one of them a high quality rendition that can be played on the television as well as your computer.

Why this vid kicks ass:
This video is beautiful and gritty in black and white. The edits hit just right on the beats of the music that captures the tension between Mal and Simon. This vidder captured the underlying violence, tension and angst (dare I say, mutually co-dependent relationship in a freaky, hot sexy lash out and I need you, but I hate you, sort of way?) between the two men seen from the very first episode. Remember the punches and fight scenes? Yep. This is good stuff, set artisticly to music.
And, while I'm at it, I also adore her "Post Blue" Vid which explores the strangely close relationship between River and Simon.
KNOCK ME OUT
This one's pretty long -- but complete -- so I'm posting in two parts. Also, buckets of angst. ;)

Vidder's website: Unreckoned Universe at Greenlady's Bower (This is not a website for her vids, but for a story she is posting. However, it is the only one I found.)
Why this vid kicks ass:
This is a very new vid and uses many clips from season 7 of Smallville, as well as some older ones. One of reasons that I liked this vid so much, besides the fact that I love the song and singer, was that I was impressed with how well the chosen images went with the lyrics of the song. It was also a well told story of the deterioration of Clark and Lex's relationship and of Lex's downward spiral as well.
